The Wichita Falls Food Bank says this year’s Summer Food Service Program is helping feed hundreds of hungry Texoma children everyday.
One in five children in our region are in need of extra assistance when it comes to food. The SFSP allows children who are 18 or under the right to at least one free, hot, nutritious meal a day.
According to the WFFB, around 500 meals are delivered everyday to children in both Burkburnett and Wichita Falls. Kids Cafe Manager Ben Diekhoff of the Wichita Falls Food Bank said they are always looking to reach as many children as they can.
“It feels good knowing that you have made a difference in somebody’s life,” said Diekhoff.
The meals are given at 11 different food sites in Wichita Falls and Burkburnett. Here is a link to food cafes that are open in the summer. The list is provided by WFAFB(Wichita Falls Area Food Bank).
Last year, the WFFB was able to give out 24,000 meals during the program’s three active months of June, July and August.
