Downtown Wichita Falls Development leaders and members of the Elks Lodge met yesterday to discuss a few of the final plans and preparations needed before the 9th annual Cajun Festival.

This year’s festival will see the city bring in four bands, thousands of pounds of Cajun food, a live gator show, a children’s area with a carnival rides and much more. But beyond the fun, Downtown Wichita Falls Development Assistant Director Jeanette VanDonge said the fest is fruitful for local businesses. “It brings exposure to the local businesses in the area. If people are coming in from Lawton they may not have seen this intersection the last couple years and there have been a lot of changes,” said VanDonge.

Many outsiders coming to the festival will notice big changes to the heavily renovated downtown area. Last year’s Cajun Festival was moved to the Bridwell Ag Center, and in the two years since the fest was last downtown, the city has invested in renovations to the famous Zale’s building, Big Blue and the old post office, while supporting businesses owner’s investments into everything from housing, to restaurants, shops and much more. “When you come down for Cajun Fest you’re going to see a lot of changes,” said VanDonge.
