The Wichita Falls ISD approves the Guaranteed Maximum Price for the Career and Technology Education Center.
The construction budget is set at about $30 million and Superintendent Michael Kuhrt said the district came in about $29,000 under budget with the package it chose.

The Wichita Falls Independent School District is ready to move forward with the construction of the Career and Technology Education Center. The board approved the guaranteed maximum price for the project’s construction at about $30 million.

Superintendent Michael Kuhrt said survey services, architecture and furniture will cost an additional five million dollars.
However the district will be reimbursed nearly $400,000 for improvements along Hatton Road, by the city.
The district also selected a project management service to oversee the timeline, progression and budget of the construction.

That contract’s total cost is about $90,000, but school officials said the company will help them save money and the District is already $29,000 under budget with the package it chose. The school board unanimously chose package one for the CTE’s layout, which is a state of the art facility with an auto collision garage, medical lab and areas that cater to other career options and industrial trades opportunities. “We’re getting a high-tech facility. It’s going to look like a business, but it is going to function like a school,” said Kuhrt.

He adds the district is getting students ready for their future and creating the communities future workforce. “If it’s directly into the workforce or technical schools for certification program, we’re preparing them for that,” said Kuhrt. Major work is expected to begin on the new CTE building within three to four weeks. The district’s goal is to be in the building by July of 2017.
