Kanye West: ‘I Want the Best’ For Taylor Swift

taylorkanyeFollowing Taylor Swift’s Album of the Year Grammy acceptance speech where the singer appeared to take aim at Kanye West, the rapper was asked by paparazzi about his feud with the singer. “I want the best for that person, but there’s people going through real issues out here,” West said Wednesday at LAX (via Us Weekly).

“There’s people out of work. There’s people in debt that can’t make it out of the debt. There’s people that’s in debt that don’t have a shoe,” West added, referring to his own alleged $53 million debt as well as his belief that textbooks are too expensive. “There’s people that are in debt that don’t have a hit album out also.”

After winning Album of the Year, Swift used her acceptance speech to subtly swipe at the rapper who earlier in the week dropped the lyric, “I think that me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.” “I want to say to all the young women out there — there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” Swift said after winning the Grammy.

Earlier in the week, reps for both Swift and West issued conflicting statements regarding the “Famous” lyric: While West claimed that Swift “thought it was funny and gave her blessings,” Swift’s rep claimed she never approved of the “misogynistic” lyric. Backstage at Saturday Night Live, West also called Swift “fake ass” in leaked audio. However, West downplayed his feud with the 1989 singer.

“The media tried to make this an ongoing story and everything for hits and blah blah,” West told paparazzi. “I don’t think people care about me or her in that way. People care about their families, their kids. If you like my music, listen to it. If you like her music, listen to it.”
