A Wichita Falls man is dead following an accident on US 287 Wednesday night.

Just before 6pm, DPS officials said 69-year-old Richard Arthur Amon was driving a motorcycle slower than normal speed in the north bound lanes of US 287 just before the Peterson Road bridge.

Troopers said a pickup truck sped up to pass the motorcycle. A semi following the pick up did not see the motorcycle in time to stop and struck it, throwing the driver from the bike.

The motorcycle driver became pinned under the semi. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was shaken up, but not injured. Authorities said a helmet was found on scene, but are unsure if the motorcycle driver was wearing it at the time of the accident. Officials said at this time they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved, however the investigation is ongoing.
