The Wichita Falls Police Department is asking citizens to be aware of an ongoing water department scam.

WFPD officials said that someone is calling local businesses and homes from an unknown number pretending to be a water department employee. Officers said the caller then tells victims that they are past due on their water bill, and that their connections will be shut off unless immediate payment is made. The caller then tries to get a credit card payment, while also offering to accept wire payments as well.

WFPD wants you to know that the city water department DOES NOT call and solicit payments nor do they accept payment over the phone without the customer using the authorized 877 number.
